Objectives:

  • Provide a brief overview of Diabetes Mellitus, including pathophysiology, epidemiology, risk factors, and diagnosis.
  • Review guideline-based approaches to treating Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2D).
  • Discuss details of medication classes used to treat T2D, including average reduction in HbA1c, mechanism of action, adverse effects, contraindications, and their relative cost.
  • Compare cost-effectiveness across medication classes used to treat T2D.

Presenters:

Tyler Ballinghoff, PharmD
Dr. Tyler Ballinghoff received his Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers University. He is currently a completing a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at Tabula Rasa Healthcare with a focus in geriatric personalized medicine and targeted therapeutics. Tyler is also an adjunct professor at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy as part of their teaching certificate program.

Briana Skalski, PharmD
Dr. Skalski received her Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biochemistry from Lafayette College in Easton, PA and her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from Temple University. She is currently a completing a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at Tabula Rasa Healthcare with a focus in geriatric personalized medicine and targeted therapeutics. Briana is also an adjunct professor at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia as part of their teaching certificate program. Her past pharmacy experiences include working as an intern at CVS Pharmacy as well as working as an intern in a specialty compounding pharmacy.
